Blizzard Entertainment announced today the official release date of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, the highly anticipated follow-up game to the 1998 hit Starcraft. First announced in May 2007, the Starcraft 2 game has been in beta testing mode since February of this year. You can pre-order your copy now for about $60 at Amazon.com and other retailers; a Collector’s Edition version will set you back $100. Shortly after its release to retail, the game will also be available for purchase directly from Blizzard.
Featuring a new, enhanced 3D graphics engine, the real-time strategy game for PC’s will offer both multi-player online combat as well as stand-alone game play. Online play will be available through Blizzard’s redesigned Battle.net gaming service. The solo campaign will pick up where Starcraft:Brood War left off.
