Universal Orlando Resorts and Warner Bros. announced today a first look at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a new theme park opening Spring 2010 in Orlando, Florida. Details of the new 20-acre park were unveiled during a video presentation posted to Universal Orlando web site.
Guests at the park will finally be able to enter the world of Harry Potter, perusing the shops of Hogsmeade, sampling Butterbeer and traditional British fare, and exploring Hogwarts Castle and grounds. Three major attractions anchor the park, including two roller coasters and a state-of-the-art interactive experience within Hogwarts itself. The Dragon Challenge is a twin high-speed roller coaster, based on the Triwizard Tournement. A smaller family coaster, Flight of the Hippogriff, simulates the Hippogriff training over the Hogwarts castle grounds. At the castle, guests will be able to experience the magic and characters of the Harry Potter series in a new story, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
An exact opening date has not yet been announced, aside from Spring 2010. Check out the Universal Orlando site to learn more about the incredible world they are creating for fans of the Harry Potter books and movies.
For those interested, the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will include additional behind the scenes footage of the park development. The Half-Blood Prince is scheduled for release December 8, 2009.
