Gentle Giant announced today a new line of Avatar collectible mini busts, set for release in July, 2010. The lineup includes mini busts of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and Tsu’Tey Navi Warrior. These limited-edition busts are available now for pre-order; the final edition size has not yet been set. Each detailed bust, created from the movie’s 3-D models, is in 1:6 scale (approximately 6 inches tall) and costs $75.

The makers of fine ray guns and other collectibles, Weta Workshop is currently offering a couple of very limited-edition District 9 replica weapons for sale to collectors world-wide. Up for grabs right now are the Gas Projector and Arc Generator (though it should be noted that the Arc Generator is already marked as sold out). Each edition is limited to 200 pieces and costs about $500 USD ($710 NZD) each. These are hefty weapon replicas, about 39 inches long (100 cm) and weighing over 10 pounds (4.5 Kg).

For those interested in the Avatar A.M.P. Suit maquette from Sideshow Collectibles, you had better act quickly. If you have not already pre-ordered your copy of this very cool sci-fi collectible, the time to act is now. R2-MK Disney Parks Exclusive
Spring 2010 brings a new character to the Star Wars galaxy of Hasbro action figures: R2-MK, an astromech droid in classic Mickey Mouse colors and distinctive mouse ears. Available exclusively at Disney Parks in California and Florida, the R2-MK figure will be packed with Jedi Mickey and retail for about $19. It’s a nice addition to the fun, creative line of Disney Star Wars / Star Tours figures.
James Cameron’s film Avatar opens here in the US on Friday, December 18th (showtime/tickets), and so far the initial reviews are pretty good. Avatar is the story of a wounded ex-marine, Jake Sully, pushed into a growing conflict between human settlement expansion/ exploitation of an exotic planet called Pandora and the native Na’vi. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, Jake ultimately finds himself in a desperate fight for the survival of the indigenous people.
