DC Direct has posted new images of the upcoming Dragon Age action figure series from DC Unlimited. Based on the 2009 video game Dragon Age: Origins from Electronic Arts, the new figure series captures four of the heroes and villains from the game. The action figures are approximately 6.5 inches tall and cost about $24 apiece. They are schedule for release on September 29, 2010, and available for pre-order now from several retailers and comic shops.
Matt Smith, the latest incarnation in the Doctor Who series, has just hit the airwaves, and Underground Toys is right there with a new action figure set. The new Crash Set 2-pack features two highly detailed versions of the 11th Doctor from the episode “Eleventh Hour”. In one version, the figure is still wearing the ripped, tattered remains of the 10th Doctor’s suit following an explosion in the TARDIS; in the other version, the Doctor is sporting a tweed jacket, bow tie and boots pilfered from lockers at the local hospital. The set will be available this May from several retailers and sell for about $26.
The 5-inch figure also includes the Doctor’s new sonic screwdriver, though a bit hard to see the detail at such a small scale (a larger scale version of the new sonic screwdriver is also coming).
Available for pre-order from Entertainment Earth and other retailers. Retail price $25.99

In space, size does matter, and Hasbro certainly kept that in mind when creating its all-new, highly detailed STAR WARS AT-AT. The AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) played a significant role in the Empire’s military assault in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, and it will play an equally important role in every fan’s toy collection this year! From the zip-line in its body and articulated legs for superb poseability, to its LED lights and authentic movie sounds and phrases, this is the must-have addition for STAR WARS fans of all ages. Includes a 3 ¾ inch AT-AT driver action figure and a pop-out speeder bike.

Spring 2010 brings a new character to the Star Wars galaxy of Hasbro action figures: R2-MK, an astromech droid in classic Mickey Mouse colors and distinctive mouse ears. Available exclusively at Disney Parks in California and Florida, the R2-MK figure will be packed with Jedi Mickey and retail for about $19. It’s a nice addition to the fun, creative line of Disney Star Wars / Star Tours figures.
James Cameron’s film Avatar opens here in the US on Friday, December 18th (showtime/tickets), and so far the initial reviews are pretty good. Avatar is the story of a wounded ex-marine, Jake Sully, pushed into a growing conflict between human settlement expansion/ exploitation of an exotic planet called Pandora and the native Na’vi. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, Jake ultimately finds himself in a desperate fight for the survival of the indigenous people.
The hype and expectations are pretty high for this movie, and with a big blockbuster science fiction film comes blockbuster merchandising. Here are some of the products and collectibles out now or coming soon.
