Quantum Mechanix Announces Serenity Replica Price Tag

Quantum Mechanix Serenity Replica

Quantum Mechanix has finally put a price tag and pre-order date for their large Serenity replica (measures 19″x12″x7″).  For $2495 you, too, can own Serenity – The Big Damn Replica.  Pre-orders will be taken starting October 30, 2009, at 12 p.m. PST.  For those balking at dropping that much at one time, they will offer an online layaway plan (how nice).

Their justification for the price tag?

Remember, each replica takes 46 hours to build and is made to order by professional model makers entirely in the U.S.A. It consists of more than 250 resin, aluminum, brass, ceramic and acrylic parts, 30 shades of paint and 32 lighting effects. The Big Damn Replica comes in an edition of just 1,000 ships and includes a wireless remote, stand and base with an individually numbered builder’s plaque signed by Captain Tight Pants himself…

As noted, the piece includes 32 lighting effects, including static, flashing, strobe and chase lights; they also throw in a wireless remote to control the effects.  This is an extremely detailed replica model, with hand-painted graphics, weathering and wear effects designed to match those of the Serenity movie version of the ship.  Eight crew members are visible on the bridge.  You can even customize your version of the ship with a couple of available options:

  • Engines pose (Crazy Ivan, anyone?)
  • Shuttles in-flight or docked
  • Reactor shutters open or closed

The total edition will be limited to 1000 numbered pieces.  Each order will also include an exclusive, original art print of the Serenity replica from artist Jason Palmer.  So if you have the desire, and the money, to add Serenity – The Big Damn Replica to your collection, be sure to sign up for the waiting list and place your pre-order as soon as you can.  They do note that you should allow 30-90 days for delivery (they are building it just for you, ya know).

Pre-order from Quantum Mechanix. Retail price $2,495
